Here’s what you’ll need
Some background about myself
Ever since I was small, I LOVED recording my life and every salient moment I have with myself, my beloved family and my friends- no matter if I used a pencil or a camera. I recall back in the days when Xanga still existed during my schooling years (yes, it was some kind of a blog, and no, I am not that old), I had already developed a habit of taking photos or doing video shoots. Although they were not comparable to the visual effects of “Titanic”, I was merely creating them for my own pleasure and as a memento. Through years of experience, I developed and strengthened my passion for visual creation via video shoots and taking photographs.
Finding your creative inspiration
After I graduated from secondary school, I continued to study visual design, where there was plenty to learn. Throughout the years and the courses I attended, I gained essential knowledge about the technicalities of taking photos or videos: Differences between shooting angles, skill sets, mix and match of various colours, and the list goes on. I have another way of gaining inspiration, and it is through watching movies or short films made by various filmmakers. Through my interest in art and film, I developed a sense of wanting to experiment with different genres using my fresh set of skills in video shooting. Movie classics and cooking videos on Youtube are just some of the videos I have watched and learned from. There are always new and interesting things to discover from different blogs and social platforms. Be creative and think outside the box if you are out of ideas, as there are sure to be materials out there waiting for you to unearth.
I believe that filming one’s lifestyle can make an audience feel cosy and comfortable at the same time. Hence, my videos are created from my personal perspective, and that is how I see my life on different occasions.
Extra Tips
Always have SD cards on hand
One time, just before a video shoot, I realised I had forgotten to bring my SD card, which was essential for obvious reasons. The thought of delaying the shoot and wasting other people’s time made my heart skip a beat. Thankfully, the video shoot did not take place in remote areas (e.g. the countryside). I was fortunate enough to buy an SD card nearby to begin video shooting as soon as possible.
Since then, I have learned my lesson and would ensure that everything was in order before leaving my bedroom. Also, bringing extra SD cards or other accessories will do no harm!
